Profile compass

The basic prerequisite for the fabrication of a full or partial denture is a detailed and extensive model analysis. Perfect model analysis also includes marking the profile of the alveolar ridge. This is done easiest by transfer to the model base using the profile compass. The outline drawn on the plaster base ensures correct placement of the teeth as the contour is still easily identified even after the wax template has been applied.

The right application

The loop-shaped end of the profile compass is placed on and moved along the alveolar ridge. Hereby, the pencil draws the alveolar ridge profile in parallel on the model base. This illustrates the lowest point of the ridge and the position of the masticatory center can be defined.
